Haruki Murakami constantly manages to surprise even if it's just with the smallest coincidence. It slowly sucks you in and all of a sudden you are in Japan and there is no way to escape. The first book is the best of the three in my opinion, but there is no way you can stop there because you can't stop reading. The second book is great too though.
